SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET - Simply Well Connected

SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET

Less wiring and more flexibility
for commanding and signaling devices

As a leading manufacturer of industrial control products, Siemens is constantly setting new standards in the further development of innovative products in order to meet new market requirements and, at the same time, meet user requirements to offer clear advantages.

The innovative SIRIUS ACT command and signaling devices impress not only with four modern design lines, their high level of robustness for unlimited use and extremely simple, time-saving installation, but also with a new communication solution. In addition to conventional wiring, the control devices can be connected to the machine control via AS-Interface, IO-Link and now also via PROFINET or PROFIsafe. This means that you can also take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalization via SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET!

Easy, time-saving installation

Digitalization ... Industry 4.0 ... begins on a small scale!

Conventional wiring is time-consuming and harbors many sources of errors during installation and commissioning. In combination with PROFINET modules, you save time-consuming wiring and take full advantage of digital technology. SIRIUS ACT standard devices become communication-capable devices by snapping communication-capable terminal modules onto the standard holder and in conjunction with a standard or safety interface module. The individual SIRIUS ACT devices (toggle switches, pushbuttons, indicator lights, etc.) are connected to each other via the snap-on terminal modules using a ribbon cable, in order to then connect this line to the controller via an interface module and a connector. Up to twenty terminal modules can be connected in series via the interface module, but the distance between the terminal modules should be less than or equal to 1m and the total length of the system should not exceed 10m.

SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET in connection with the TIA Portal is an important step in the direction of digitalization, since in addition to programming, parameterization, and visualization, fast error diagnosis is also possible. Sources of error can be localized immediately using diagnostic messages in the TIA Portal. Another way of discovering sources of error is to use red flashing red diagnostic LEDs on the terminal and interface modules. After connecting the 24V DC supply voltage, the system can be tested without being connecting to the controller. Fast troubleshooting by replacing defective devices or correcting wiring errors is possible without software.

Flexible communication solutions for the field and the control panel.

SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET – Benefits at a glance:

  • Standard devices become communication-capable at any time by snapping terminal modules onto the standard holder
  • Easy connection of the command points via ribbon cables (piercing technology); Installation possible without special tools
  • Reduced wiring effort, fewer sources of error
  • Quick and easy connection to the controller (PLC)
  • Easy fault diagnosis via TIA Portal, controller or diagnostic LEDs of the modules
  • No addressing of the individual command point; only one IP address for up to 21 devices
  • Service-related device replacement easily possible due to modular, pluggable design
  • High flexibility due to additional interfaces: 4 digital inputs/1 digital output (DI, DQ), 1 analog input (AI)
  • End-to-end engineering through integration into the TIA Portal
  • Safety Integrated: Connection of fail-safe devices up to SIL 3 (e.g. EMERGENCY STOP) to the Safety interface module via PROFIsafe communication
