Robust Sensor for Challenging Outdoor Applications
Using radar technology, K50R sensors reliably operate in rain, snow, fog, and direct sunlight. They operate at a frequency of 60 GHz, which allows them to detect targets in a wider variety of shapes and sizes compared to 24 GHz sensors. The 60-GHz frequency also makes them more resistant to ambient weather compared to 122 GHz sensors.
Ideal for detecting large objects like automobiles or forklifts at short range, the K50R adjustable-field radar sensor features a compact, flush-mount design with configurable LEDs.
Custom Configuration Settings
Banner K50R and K50R Pro radar sensors are now more customizable, offering performance modes fine-tuned for different detection requirements. The sensors in this series can be programmed with one of three available performance modes:
- Standard, with a range of 0.1 to 2.5 meters.
- Faster Response, with a response time that is twice as fast.
- High Power, with more signal strength to detect weaker targets.
This allows the sensors to be optimized to give the most reliable response for their intended application. Users can set or change their preferred performance mode using Banner’s radar configuration PC software, available as a free download.
Configurable LEDs (with Pro Version)
Standard K50R models feature three LEDs and are intended for applications that only require presence/absence detection, which is accomplished with dual discrete outputs. However, K50R Pro models are also available, which provide an all-in-one solution: a sensor combined with indication lights. The K50R Pro features eight RGB LEDs that can be configured using software to track target distances, for measuring and profiling. Both K50R and K50R Pro versions offer a short dead zone—delivering accurate results as close as 100 millimeters from targets—and can precisely detect objects up to 2.5 meters away, depending on the specific model.
Key Benefits of K50R Radar Sensors
The K50R features a wide-angle (80° × 60°) beam pattern to detect nearby objects within a large field of view. This is important for many short-range detection applications, such as identifying the presence of vehicles in drive-thrus, security gates, or car wash bays.
Because K50R radar sensors are specialized for close-range detection needs, they deliver excellent value upfront. But another benefit of this focused approach to design is that they consume less power than other types of radar sensors (including Banner’s own T30R series). This can provide notable energy savings for users who only require close-range radar detection. With software, K50R users can choose to deactivate the LEDs to conserve power.
Because of their flush-mount design, K50R sensors can be installed on nearly any flat surface. PC software with an intuitive graphical user interface streamlines configuration. For applications incorporating multiple identical sensors, the software enables customized configurations to be copied from one sensor to another. K50Rs can also be configured via remote teach.
